What is CHRB Ransomware
CHRB ransomware is a data locking ransomware belonging to the Matrix Ransomware family. It uses a unique pattern to change the filenames. It creates a Ransom note as a document file as “!README_CHRB!.rtf” file . So the file name is replaced and renamed with a ransom string. as “[[email protected]].[random_string].CHRB”. As soon as the files are targeted by CHRB Ransomware, a ransom note is created by CHRB Ransomware hackers that clearly contains the information as to how to contact them and other details on how to get the data decrypted. This ransomware encrypts files using AES-128 and RSA-2048 algorithms. This is why the files once encrypted cannot be unlocked without a specific decryption tool and private key. It is also clearly stated in the ransom note that if victims try to attempt with any third party decryptor, it will damage the data permanently. So intervention of hackers will be required and for this victims can contact them on the given email ids in the note as [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected]. Furthermore, victims are given an option to upload up to 3 files and get it decrypted for free by sending them to the given email address. However it is mentioned that the files should not be important or must not contain any valuable information.

Like other Ransomware such as Matafaka Ransomware , CHRB Ransomware performs similar action to block access and make the data inaccessible by locking the files and data. Eventually thereafter the files are held hostage and a ransom amount is demanded by the hackers of CHRB Ransomware from the victims. This is all done to create panic among the victims. This is why it is important to create a backup of all the important data and files and to keep it on some other external storage devices or on cloud storage as backup.
