What is FuuCry Ransomware
FuuCry Ransomware is a malicious data locking malware that locks data and files as hostage. The encrypted files are rendered useless and it cannot be accessed with immediate effect after FuuCry Ransomware attacks the system. Once the files are attacked, they get renamed with .cry as file extension. Suppose if the image file name is image.jpg then it will get renamed as image.jpg.cry. Similarly excel sheet with file name Reports.xls will be renamed to Reports.xls.cry so on and so forth. Thereafter, Ransom note is dropped on to the compromised folders within the system which are in the form of text as READ ME FOR DECRYPT.txt, Pop-up window as well as Decryption Window field where victims can input decryption code. However both Ransom txt file and Pop-up window are similar and contain the same message as Ransom note. It is used for informing the victims about FuuCry Ransomware attack stating their important files and folders have been encrypted using RSA-4096 cryptographic algorithm. It further states that if victims want to get their files unlocked they must contact hackers for ransom payment as Bitcoins. Any delaying in the ransom payment will result in increasing the ransom amount to manifolds. So victims are given a deadline to pay the ransom sooner the better by FuuCry Ransomware hackers.
Even if the victims try to open their encrypted files and data they will fail to do so due to .cry extension. all the files are locked which includes photos, .doc, excel sheets, tables, music files and videos. Further a message will prompt instructing that data will only get decrypted after ransom payment is made in Bitcoins to the hackers. There is no other way to unlock files without the decryption tool or private key that will be released only after ransom payment. These are all strategies devised by hackers for extracting money directly to their kitty from the innocent victims. There is also information given in the ransom note that the payment should be made in Bitcoins and how to buy Bitcoins.
