What is Hoop Ransomware
Are you unable to open your images, documents and files? Are the files renamed with .hoop file extension ? If yes then be sure that your computer is attacked by Hoop Ransomware. Hoop file virus or Hoop Ransomware is the latest data encrypting malware belonging to STOP/DJVU Ransomware family. It is known to be a malicious virus that encrypts all the stored data and files present on the system. It appends the files with a new extension as .hoop extension. For example if an image file with original name as 1.jpeg will get appended and renamed as 1.jpeg.hoop. This is the strategy to hold files hostage and then demand ransom in Bitcoins from the victims in exchange of getting the data unlocked. As soon as the system is targeted by Hoop Ransomware, it drops a ransom note as “_readme.txt” file on the desktop.
How Hoop Ransomware Entered PC?
Security flaws and loopholes present on the system are the biggest reason that makes it most vulnerable for Hoop Ransomware attack. Clicking on suspicious links, visiting porn websites, downloading spam email and attachments cannot be ruled out either.
Ransom Note
The Hoop Ransomware drops the note on the victim’s desktop and it clearly mentions that all the data and files including images, documents and important data base have been encrypted now and it cannot be further accessed. The encryption Algorithm is quite strong and it would require a unique key or decryption tool. The only way to get them is by paying ransom and purchasing the decryption tool from the hackers of Hoop Ransomware. To make it more real, hackers have even offered to send any one of the encrypted files to them and it will be decrypted and sent back to the victims for free of cost. However, it is clearly stated that it should be only 1 file and that also must not contain any valuable or important data. The ransom amount demanded is $980. If the ransom is paid within 72 hours of attack, a discount of 50% would be offered. It means victims need to pay within 72 hours and the amount would be halved to $490. Further hackers may be contacted on provided email id as [email protected] and there is also a reserve email id given as [email protected].
However it is strongly advised users should never proceed towards paying ransom to hackers. There is no guarantee that the files would be unlocked or decrypted even if the ransom is paid. This is just a trick to extract money and finally victims will lose their data along with their hard earned money. So if you are thinking towards ransom payment, better drop this idea and concentrate on ways to remove Hoop Ransomware from your system. As far as data is concerned there is no way to recover encrypted data. Unless and until you have a backup, if you have saved or created a backup on some other device or cloud backup, it can be used to restore the files.
