LOWPRICE Ransomware Description
LOWPRICE Ransomware is yet another variant of Phobos Malware Family such as Acuna Ransomware and suggests that it is till under the development stage as it has various flaws. LOWPRICE Ransomware uses an encryption tactics to render all files and folders useless. They can’t be accessed until and unless ransom is not paid to the hackers of LOWPRICE Ransomware. This is all done to create a sense of panic among the victims as they cannot afford to lose their important data which are held hostage by the ransomware. The hackers assure the victims and claim to decrypt all the data provided ransom amount is paid. It uses a similar strategy as earlier variants of Ransomware to change and modify the default file names. Eventually all the modified and renamed files get locked and cannot be accessed further. The original file name gets modified as ‘Original File Name.id[Unique Victim ID].[ICQ Account].LOWPRICE.’ However such ICQ messaging apps are somewhat rare and not commonly seen.
What are LOWPRICE Ransomware’s Demands
LOWPRICE Ransomware drops a set of instructions as ransom note in form of two files as “info.txt” and info.hta on the PC and desktops of victims. However its content are similar with the message to pay the ransom as quickly as possible. If the amount is not paid within set time frame of 72 hours. If it is not paid by then, the hackers threaten to sell the important and confidential data collected from the compromised system on the dark web and to the competitors. However what amount exactly is to be paid is not mentioned in the note. Also hackers have provided their email ids which can be used by the victims to contact hackers as [email protected], or the SAFEPLACE ICQ account also with the name containing that of encrypted files. However it is better advised that users should never contact hackers on the given email id as this would involve a lot of risks and expose their data and system for future attacks too.
Why Victims Should Never Pay to LOWPRICE Ransomware?
Victims should never pay the ransom to hackers as there is no guarantee that hackers will provide the decryption tool even after the payment of the ransom amount. There can be a bigger financial loss in waiting after encryption of their important data. However to prevent any further encryption of data in future by LOWPRICE Ransomware should be removed from the compromised and targeted PC as soon as possible. Even if the ransomware is cleaned from the system, the enciphered data cant be recovered unless users do not have a backup of the encrypted data. So the best solution is to restore data from the backup which is present on some different location or on other systems.
