Description: Rigd virus
Have you been a victim of Rigd Virus? Is your PC attacked by Rigd Ransomware? Rigd virus is yet another Ransomware released in the wild. It is a new malware which is the 335th variant of Stop Ransomware Family. It attacks and targets the computer and encrypts the stored files and data and then demands Ransom for decrypting the hostage files. It encrypts the files by appending a .rigd extension at the end of the file name. For example if an image file with the name 1.jpg will be renamed to 1.jpg.rigd. This makes the file inaccessible. Rigd virus is known to use long and unique key for file encryption and it is specific for each victim. This means that one key can be used only once and it cannot be used to decrypt files on different systems next time.

Rigd Ransomware does not encrypt all the files and this is the reason why the system can still work even after Rigd Ransomware attack. It does not encrypt System Files of the Windows as well as text files having the name as ‘_readme.txt’. It is crafted to encrypt files that are stored on the hard drive as well as on cloud backup. It can target the files which are mentioned below as:

So all the files that are mentioned in the screenshot above will be locked and renamed with a new file extension as .rigd file extension. Also Rigd Ransomware drops ransom notes in each folder that contains encrypted or locked files. The ransom note bears the information for the victims that their files are held hostage by Rigd Ransomware and they need to pay the ransom to hackers for decrypting .rigd files. This is the only way to decrypt .rigd files which are encrypted by the Rigd Ransomware. If victims want to restore their files they need to pay the ransom amount of $980. Also if the victims make this payment within 72 hours of the attack, they would get a discount of 50% and will have to pay only $490. Just to make them understand how the decryption would work, hackers offer to decrypt any one file for free but it should be a small file and must not contain any important data.
How To Remove Rigd Ransomware
However, we at malwareguide112.com never advise victims to proceed for ransom payment. There is no guarantee that hackers will release the decryption keys even after getting the ransom. So victims should remove Rigd Ransomware from their compromised PC by scanning the PC using Legit Anti-spyware tool. They can restore data by using backup of the important files which is stored on some other system or on cloud storage.
