What is Rugj Ransomware
Rugj Ransomware is a malicious computer infection classified as ransomware. These installers may be introduced to you on P2P file sharing websites and other questionable sources. Rugj Ransomware is not a unique threat as it belongs to the DJVU Ransomware family. It encrypts files and appends .rugj as file extension as the suffix. If the file name is 1.jpg, it would be renamed to 1.jpg.rugj. Soon after the attack, Rugj Ransomware drops a ransom note as “_readme.txt” file. Ransom note informs victims that their files are locked due to RUGJ Ransomware attack. It cannot be further accessed unless and until ransom is paid for purchasing the decryption tool and unique key. Generally ransom of $980 is demanded but if victims decided to pay the ransom within 72 hours of the attack they can get a discount of 50% and will have to pay $490 for the decryption key. For contacting the hackers, victims need to use [email protected] or [email protected] as their email address.

The malware activates the Master Boot Record (MBR) to execute the malicious code. You will also be instructed to check the README.txt file that you will find on any of your disks. The first one might seem like a file and data locking infection, because the distribution file, which Rugj Ransomware later downloads, is distributed by fake Adobe Flash player update pop-ups. Its appearance will probably not change, but you will not be able to access these files. Even if you pay the ransom, you will not receive the decryption key that allows you to decrypt the files.
Why Should Victims Not pay the Ransom
Fortunately, this ransomware infection will not block .exe files and system utilities, but there is a huge possibility that it uses your Internet connection. There is no need to expose your personal information to criminals as it is enough to remove the infection from the system. As you know, ransomware is a very serious infection, so you should take care of your system’s security so that you don’t encounter these threats again. For a normal user, it is obvious that it is impossible to decrypt the affected files unless you have a decryption key. However, chances are, even if you pay the ransom, Rugj Ransomware will not issue you a decryption key. Follow the guide given below to remove Rugj Ransomware from your system.
