Tirp Ransomware is a file encrypting malware belonging to DJVU family. It holds the file hostage and its rendered useless or inaccessible and then demands ransom as crypto-currency from the victims. The sole motive behind such attack is to encrypt important files and data and then force victims to pay a huge sum as ransom upto $490-$980 in Bitcoins for releasing decryption key. The files which are targeted by the malware are renamed having “.tirp” as file extension. So if the image file with the file name image.jpeg will be renamed as image.jpeg.tirp. As soon as the computer is compromised, victims will find a ransom note which is titled as _readme.txt. Also hackers offer to decrypt any one file for free as a trial or sample for decryption but that file should not contain any important piece of information.

Ransom Note

The ransom note is known to contain all required information such as contact email id of hackers if the victims need to reach out to them. Also all the communication between the victims and hackers is to be done by email using the email id as mentioned in the threat summary below. Victims are asked to check their email and also their spam folder for any response that might arrive from hackers after 6 hours. Tirp Ransomware is so weird in nature that it can encrypt all files and data stored on PC such as archive files, pictures, photos, videos documents and even backup files so that victims are unable to restore the files. The ransom note states that if the victims pay the ransom fee within 72 hours of attack, they will have to pay only 50% of the amount which is $490 in Bitcoins as they will get a discount. Failing to do so will levy full ransom fee as $980 in Bitcoins. Victims get an assurance from the hackers that all their files will be decrypted once the ransom fee is paid by the victims and they must not delay in the payment of the same.

Why Victims Should Not pay the Ransom

It is suggested that victims should never pay the ransom amount to hackers of Tirp Ransomware. One cannot and should never rely upon the assurances made by hackers as there is no guarantee whether any decryption tool / key will be ever released by hackers even after ransom payment. Even if the provide private key to decrypt files what if it does not work or is faulty. It can be some fake installers. Or even suppose if the tool works but paying the ransom will boost the morale of the hackers and they will soon be back with some more variants of ransomware.

Windows XP and Windows 7 users:

First of all Reboot the PC in “Safe Mode”. For this users need to Click on “Start” option and then continuously Tap on F8 during the start process. Then a “Windows Advanced Option” menu will appear on the screen. Now Choose “Safe Mode with Networking” from the listed options.

This will open a new Windows homescreen and your PC or work-station will be working on “Safe Mode with Networking”.

For Windows 8

First Go to Start Screen. Now type “Advanced” after selecting settings within the searched results Within the “General PC Settings” option, Select “Advanced startup” option. Then click on the “Restart Now” option. This will boot work-station to “Advanced Startup Option Menu”. Now Press on “Troubleshoot” and then “Advanced options” button.  Then under “Advanced Option Screen”, You need to press on “Startup Settings”. Now again, click on “Restart” button. This will restart PC or Work-station with “Startup Setting” screen. You need to tap F5 to boot in Safe Mode in Networking.

For Windows 10

First of all click on Windows logo by clicking on the “Power” icon. This will open a new menu. Select “Restart” by constantly keeping “Shift” button pressed on keyboard. Once the new Window open Select on “Troubleshoot” as advanced option. Within the startup settings users need to press on “Restart” by clicking on F5 button of the keyboard.

Step:2 How To Delete Tirp Ransomware using System Restore

For this you need to log in on the PC which is compromised by Tirp Ransomware. Now open any browser and download legit anti-malware software. Once installed you need to undergo complete system scan. Thereafter remove the infected and suspicious entries which are detected.

Suppose if you are unable to start PC in “Safe Mode with Networking”, you need not worry. Try “System Restore” Process

Press on “Yes” in new opened Window.

As soon as your PC gets restored to its previous time, download the suggested anti-malware tool and perform a deep scanning in order to remove Tirp Ransomware infected files if still present on the the work-station.

If you want to restore each file separately which is infected by this ransomware, kindly use “Windows Previous Version” feature. This step is most effective whenever “System Restore Function” is enabled on the PC or work-station.
